Original ESPO Artwork [Auction]
Auction begins 1/27/2018 at 9AM EST
Stephen "ESPO" Powers was raised in Philadelphia, where he graduated from the University of the Arts before relocating to New York City in 1995. Powers's alias, ESPO (Exterior Surface Painting Outreach), won him notoriety not only in the Graffiti world, but also helped establish him in the Contemporary Art world. After establishing himself as a publisher for On the Go Magazine and the author of several books, including his newest publication compiling the last 6 years of global public art projects, A Love Letter to the City, Powers began showing work in notable galleries such as New York City's Deitch Projects.
This painting is inspired by the Steve “ESPO” Powers' mural that is painted on the outside façade of the Silver Lake cafe in Los Angeles. ESPO, a Philly-native, has painted murals in many cities that we call home, including Chicago, New York, and D.C. Each mural is a collection of references paying homage to the brand and neighborhood.
100% of all proceeds will go directly to the Haiti Coffee Academy Water Projects. The Haiti Coffee Academy is striving to help coffee farmers change the trajectory of their sector. The primary goal is to improve growers’ livelihoods by helping them increase the quantity and quality of coffee they produce, process, and trade, while maintaining a diversified cropping system.
