The French press, a classic immersion brewer that is confident and bold. With French and Italian roots, this method of making coffee is one of our favorites, producing a rich cup with a lush mouthfeel.

Let’s Get Started…

Step 1: Weigh

Weigh out your coffee beans. We like the 1:14 ratio for a French Press.

Step 2: Grind

Grind the coffee beans. You will want them to resemble coarse sea salt. If you don’t have a scale, you can simply fill your French Press roughly 1/6 of the way up with those coarsely ground beans.

Step 3: Boil

Boil water (roughly 200°F), then let it cool off for about 30 seconds.

Step 4: Rinse

Rinse the French press with some of the boiled water. This will pre-heat the press and will ensure the temperature doesn’t change dramatically when brewing. Discard the water from the French Press.

Step 5: Add

Place the French Press on the scale. Zero (tare) the scale and then add the premeasured coffee grinds.

Step 6: Pour

Time to pour! Zero the scale again. Cover the grounds in about an inch of water and let them bloom for 30 seconds. Fill the French Press with the rest of the water, pouring slowly and evenly. Let your French Press brew for 4 minutes.

Step 7: Enjoy!

Press the plunger down on the French press, and pour all of the coffee out – not just what you’re going to drink. If you let the extra brewed coffee sit in the French Press, it will continue to extract and its taste will worsen, so pour it into another vessel until you’re ready to drink it. Time to enjoy!
