Let’s Get Started…

Step 1: Prepare the Brewer
Insert the stopper into the bottom of the brewing container from the outside. Dampen the disc shaped felt filter and insert it into the inside bottom of the brewing container.

Step 2: Prepare the Coffee
The Toddy will work very well with a full 12 oz. bag of coffee. If you’d like to brew a smaller or larger batch, weigh the amount of coffee you’re using so that you can have the correct water to coffee ratio. You may brew up to 16 oz. of coffee at a time.

Step 3: Grind
You will want the consistency of the grounds to resemble coarse sea salt similar to french press. You may also order your coffee through lacolombe.com and request that it is ground for French Press/Cold Brew.

Step 4: Add Coffee
You may use a filter bag (provided with each Toddy System) for easier cleanup and less sediment but it is not required. Add coffee to the filter bag or directly to the brewing container.

Step 5: Add Water
If using a 12 oz bag of coffee, add 7 cups of water to the brewer. If you are using a different amount, multiply the weight of the coffee by 5 to determine the weight of water to use.

Step 6: Steep
Let the brewer (filled with water and coffee) sit at room temperature for 18 to 24 hours depending on taste preference.

Step 7: Decant
Place the brewing container over the glass decanter. Remove the stopper and let the coffee concentrate flow into the decanter. It may take 30 - 45 minutes for all coffee to completely pass through the filter into the vessel.

Step 8: Serve
Since the Toddy brews highly concentrated coffee, the concentrate must be diluted with water, milk, or milk alternative based on taste preference. We recommend multiplying the amount of concentrate used by three to determine the amount of water, milk, or milk alternative to add to your final beverage.

Step 9: Clean and Store
Dispose of the grounds and or filter bag. Remove and rinse felt filter with water. Place the damp felt filter in a resealable plastic bag in the freezer. It may be used up to 10 times. The rest of the cold brew system is dishwasher safe. The concentrate will remain fresh for up to 2 weeks if stored in the refrigerator.
