In 2013, Renardo planted experimental plots at a new farm called Los Pinos in Santa Barbara. Named for the old pines that grow on the property, Los Pinos is located about 2 hours east of the family’s main farm and wet mill, La Bolsa.
Los Pinos boasts an incredibly high altitude for Guatemalan coffee, which leads to a crystal clear sparkle of acidity in the cup. When we cupped it in Vides58’s Guatemala City lab, the vibrant flavor notes of strawberry, blueberry, and mango showed how pushing the bounds of traditional coffee produces a truly unique experience.
